The Dark Sides of the Healer: Continuities and Contradictions in the Therapeutic Process.
The dark sides of the Therapist: Resonances and resistances in the therapeutic process.
The therapist - treated relationship in the context of the Existential Systemic view is a continuous interaction, which invites the therapist to a
internal process and in a constant reflection.
In this process the therapist will inevitably come into contact with both his potential and his dark spots. He is called to deal with situations of continuity: Where the experiences and problems of the treated person are continuous with his own, with the risk of being trapped in his unresolved personal issues.
He is also called upon to co-create situations of counterpoint: Mutual enrichment with the client, where the therapist can overcome his personal difficulties and facilitate the client's development, but ultimately his own personal development. It seems paradoxical, but it is true: The therapist can lead the client beyond his own level! Then the progress of the client, in some way, returns to the therapist.
