In the Mirror of Narcissus
We live in an era that operates individually and where the image dominates autonomously and imposes its own rules.
Postmodern society tends to produce narcissistic personalities. Within the framework of the Existential Systems Theory of the Antistixi Institute, we have utilized the ancient myth of Narcissus and Echo, as we explore the creation of the narcissistic personality within the context of interactional relationships.
It is about being trapped in the image of beauty that is not shared and does not lead to a relationship, on the contrary, it seeks the other simply as an Echo, as a repetition and confirmation of personal self-sufficiency and superiority. In the myth of Narcissus, the failure of man to build an egocentric awareness of himself, without his immersion in the other, is crystallized. The self is not fed back by the gaze of the other, as Narcissus is unable to love.
The entire journey it has to take is from the fleeting glow of the image's charm, as it is desperately claimed in the eyes of others, to
beauty to love, to care for the one you love and to make the most of the love available.
The treatment is long-term and demanding, as it seeks out the narcissistic blow and focuses on understanding the dynamics, as well as
in the acceptance by the patient of his inadequacy for meaningful loving relationships.
